FASCA Overseas Youth Cultural Volunteers Association Atlanta Branch held Mid-Autumn Festival and Teacher’s Day celebrations on September 12 at the Atlanta Overseas Chinese Culture and Education Center. A total of 26 students participated.
The event arrangement was designed by the Atlanta branch consultant Ms. Niou, and a number of volunteer teachers carefully arranged cultural activities related to Confucius’ deeds and Mid-Autumn Festival.
The event kicked off the “World Universiade” dance led by 6 students in the dance group. The students also danced to the brisk music. After several practice sessions, the dance steps became more light and skillful and uniform.
Then Ms. Wang introduced Confucius’ central idea “Benevolence” and his life deeds. And through the film to explain the huge number of Confucius has 3000 disciples, and explain the concept of Confucius in the four seas are all brothers. After that, Teacher Wang gave each group of students In 10 minutes, type in the interesting deeds that most impressed Confucius in his life, so as to deepen the understanding of Confucius.
Next, Ms. Liu introduced stories about the legends of the Mid-Autumn Festival, including Hou Yi shooting the sun, Chang’e flying to the moon, Wu Gang cutting the gui, jade rabbit pounding medicine, and Zhu Yuanzhang’s uprising-the origin of eating moon cakes during the Mid-Autumn Festival. At the same time, Mr. Huang Yingru specially made a moon cake model to simulate the form of using moon cakes to convey messages during the Zhu Yuanzhang uprising. There is a note of “themes selected by each group of shadow puppets”. Each group of students made the characters and background of the shadow puppets according to the story content. .
Then, after Ms. Liu explained the production process of the characters and background of the shadow puppet show, all members of the team must develop their creativity and team spirit, and make the props needed for the shadow puppet show based on the story content drawn. The trainees can’t wait to choose the characters they like in the story, and start to divide the labor to make various shadow puppets. With the help and guidance of many volunteer teachers, one by one will be lovely ~ 3 ~ Yutu, the brave Houyi, or the flying Chang’e can all be played in the palm of the hand. After the production was completed, each group went on stage to perform a lively and interesting story about Mid-Autumn Festival shadow puppetry.
Next, teacher Ms. Wang will lead the students’ group activities. The group competition can win the highest paper pile, and finally the second group will win.
The event came to an end amidst the cheers and thunder. We look forward to the FASCA Atlanta branch established under the encouragement of Director Lai, and the young volunteer team cultivated by consultants and mentors, will inherit the spirit of FASCA and shine in mainstream American society.
