FASCA Service Hour Volunteer Opportunity at Books for Africa

Books for Africa has volunteer opportunities for FASCA members who are interested in providing service and demonstrating global citizenship.

This is an opportunity to teach our kids their working attitude – such as being on time, following instructions, being courteous, and working hard. This is also a great opportunity to train FASCA members to expand their worldview and prepare them to be engaged, global citizens.

Eligibility & Requirements

1. It will be counted as 2 FASCA service hours if a group of 3+ FASCA members completes a two-hour shift together.

2. A group photo at the front of the volunteer location (Books For Africa Warehouse) is required.

3. A FASCA Service Log with supervisor signature is required.

4. Please wear the FASCA T-shirt to present our FASCA unity, pride, and responsibility.

Description of the volunteer program:

Most African children who attend school have never owned a book of their own. For many children in Africa, the gift of books truly is a gift of hope. Since 1988, Books For Africa has sent 50 million books to the children of Africa. We rely on volunteers like you to sort and pack the books for our shipments.

No heavy lifting is involved. Volunteers should be aged 14 and older, or 12-13 years old with a chaperone. Individuals or groups of up to 20 people are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers sign up for two-hour shifts during our open hours of Monday through Friday from 9 am–3 pm. Shifts are normally between 9-11 am, and/or 1-3 pm.

Please check the following websites for more information about the organization and the volunteer opportunity.

Notes:

The volunteer shifts schedule only opens up to end-of-November as of now. Once the schedule for December becomes available, we may find another date during winter break for more members to attend together.
